Patriotic Red White and Blue STAINED GLASS JELL-O - 52 Grilling and BBQ Side Dish Ideas

HAPPY 4th of July!!!

BUT, this recipe works great for just about any holiday.  Christmas, Red and Green, St. Patrick's Day, all green (and white), Mother's Day, all pink... Arbor Day, look at the sails and copy the colors as the ships sail into the Arbor... You get the idea.

I like to use cookie cutters for fun shapes.  These were supposed to look like exploding fireworks!

But the kids loved 'em even if I had to explain the choice of cutter.

OK... Here's what I did...

Stained Glass Jello

Ingredients
  • 4 (3 OZ) Boxes Jell-o, 2 each in Bold Red (Cranberry) and Blue (Berry) neon colors
  • 1 (14 OZ) Can Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 2 Envelopes Knox Unflavored Gelatin
Cooking Directions
  1. Dissolve two 3 oz box of jello in two cup of boiling water... IMPORTANT... The box says to dissolve 2 Cups with 1 box... You are doubling, BUT Cut this to only 2 cup per two boxes per color for firmer "blocks"
  2. Pour into a flat container (9X13 Casserole Pan) so the Jell-o does not get more than 1/2 inch deep and chill overnight.
  3. Repeat with remaining color of Jell-o
  4. After chilling the two flavors, cut them into 1/2 inch square blocks.
  5. In a clean 9X13 pan, carefully fold the colors to mix.
  6. Meanwhile, In a separate bowl, sprinkle the 2 envelopes Knox gelatin into 1/2 cup cold water. After the gelatin blooms, add 1 1/2 cup boiling water and dissolve.
  7. Add the can of condensed milk. Stir and cool... IMPORTANT Allow the milk gelatin to cool to room temperature or you will melt the Jell-o squares.
  8. Pour cooled milk mixture over Jell-o and again chill overnight
  9. Cut into larger 2X2 Squares or use a cookie cutter for fun display, serve chilled as a salad or dessert and ENJOY!!!
